I mention all of this, not because I thought you needed to know all of the big things that happened the year I was born, but because I learned a bit about one of the other events that happened in 1989 today.
In church, a woman from China named Chai Ling gave her testimony today. You can look her up online, for all the details, but she was a student leader of the Tiananmen Square protests (twice nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize). She spoke about how she had worked for so long to get political freedom from the Communist Government, and then she actually escaped. She fled to France, and eventually the states. Then when she finally had attained the freedom she had so long desired, it wasn't what was missing in her life.
In December of last year she came to accept Christ after some friends and mentors showed her that God was the one she really needed. She was baptized this April, and gave her testimony today.
It was a really good service, the sermon was on fearing the Lord (in a nutshell you should fear the Lord like you fear parents. It's not like you want to run and hide, it's like you have to much respect to disobey, or dissapoint [not that we don't all fall short anyways]).
Then later today we had prayer and worship. That was wonderful as I'm sure it will always be. (You really can't beat 18 people singing praises with piano and acoustic guitar in a small room)
Then to top off the night the Celtics won! If they win on Tuesday I will actually be in the City of a professional Championship team. Cool huh?
Least to say that today was an interesting day. I can't wait to see what God has in store for me next. So, until next time,
God Bless.
WOW. what a lifestory that woman has!
